    Hi,

I’m in a bit of a pickle (ahem) and am seeking clarification on the following “pick” scenario:

A pick is called after a throw was made. The throw is caught by the offense however the pick was called on the receiver and it is agreed that the pick affected the play/possession (I.e. the defender claims they could have had a chance to get the disc).

The disc goes back to the thrower. However what happens to theĀ  Offense/defense pair that were picked?According to the Annotations of the rules 18.15:

“If the offence retains possession after an accepted pick, the picked defender may go to the agreed place where they would have been without the obstruction. All other players, including the offensive player that the defender was guarding, should be located according to Rule 10.2″Thereby the pair (and all others) should go back to when the call made, and the defender can “catch up”.

However looking at the decision diagram for a pick, it just states that defense catches up. Implying (by omission) that the offense does not go back.

    Thanks for your help!

It’s not possible to fit every single detail into those scenario boxes.
The O player goes to where they were when the throw was made, and the D player gets to catch up to where they would have been without the obstruction. If the obstruction happened after the disc was in the air, and therefore there is no positional disadvantage to make up, then the players can agree to slightly adjust their locations to avoid potential picks.
