In the case I presented (where the pivot is set for milliseconds, on a dead sprint, with no attempt to stop), there would be practically zero time for other players to be aware as there would be no time “standing in bounds” or time for a thrower/maker to announce “disc in”. Not necessarily saying this is wrong, just trying to understand impact to all cases we would likely see.

Wow, I really like the intent of this idea. I once thought that the current ABBA system would be easy and error free. But, seeing this in action on many games, I now know this is not true. As the OP stated, if it isn’t tracked carefully every single point, confusion can (and does) arise. How many coaches carry around a cheat sheet so they don’t mix this up! I like this idea but I fear a forever-one-way decision is not going to get enough supporters.

Pros and cons to all ideas, but I know that at least one national league is currently using this idea. In fact, all rolling pulls going through the endzone stay on the line where they went out, i.e., not brought to the goal line. They went one step further and moved the pulling line up to a line at the brick mark so that, intentionally, offense would have a worse starting position. The reasons for implementing this were reported to be: 1) Getting a pull to roll through the endzone then out the side was considered a “skill shot” and should be rewarded with a field position advantage. 2) It was considered to be more exciting play to have offense start deeper with less dump options, defense arriving sooner, and more callahan possibilities. 3) They did not believe defense has the advantage; quite the opposite. But to be fair, they play on a slightly wider field which gives offense more swing space. Still, some will argue that games with a fewer defensive play turnover possibilities, isn’t the most interesting.

Saw this recently in another ultimate league that has the “no ground touch required” rule in going from “live” to “in play” state: A player (new thrower) picks up a disc in defending endzone after a turnover and runs it to the goal line in a full sprint. The instant the thrower’s foot hits the goal line the disc was thrown. The thrower made absolutely no attempt to slow down and only made a slight course change to avoid running over a legally positioned marker. This is legal; no call. Honestly, I am still trying to decide how I feel about this. Maybe it is just fine and keeping the game more fast-paced. Can’t pin point it, exactly, but something doesn’t feel 100% right about it. As a marker, it almost seems like I would need to guard a thrower while running to put on an effective defense.
