I would like to see naming conventions standardised. Some teams have a place name, some teams have a object or animal, some contain Ultimate, or Ultimate Team, or Ultimate Club. I think we should ensure that all clubs follow the same practises for consistency. For example:
1) Requiring a location, for example:
– Mooncatchers becomes Brussels Mooncatchers
– GRUT becomes Amsterdam Grut1.1) Further, but ensuring a plural, referenced as a ‘the’:
– Lunch Box Ultimate becomes ‘The Brisbane Lunchboxes’
– Monkey becomes ‘The Grenoble Monkeys’
This would also reduce clubs with poor naming conventions i.e. what even is a Chevron Action Flash or a Sesquidistus2) Requiring Ultimate in the name:
– Yaka becomes Yaka Ultimate
– Jinx Midnight becomes Jinx Midnight Ultimate2.1) Or expanding to Ultimate Team, or Ultimate Club, shortened to UT or UC (similar to FC)
3) Requiring both a location and ultimate in the name and in that order:
– Seattle Mixtape becomes Seattle Mixtape Ultimate
– Box Vienna becomes Vienna Box Ultimate
– Disconnection becomes Freiburg Disconnection Ultimate
– Spice Ultimate becomes London Spice Ultimate4) Banning all location and/or ultimate in the name all together
I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer here – 2.1 is a little more like soccer, 1.1 is a little more like American football. I don’t think there should be any concerns over the length of the team names as professional sports teams go by either the location, *thing*, or a nickname i.e. Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club is referred to as Wolves, it’s more about the appearance on documents and schedules, and ensuring a level of consistency to legitimise the sports.
Curious if anyone has any other suggestions too.
