Hi everyone,

I had a question regarding pick calls, and difference between WFDF and USAU rules

In WFDF rules, the pick is described as:

”18.3.1. If a defensive player is guarding one offensive player and they are prevented from moving towards/with that player by another player, that defensive player may call “Pick”. However it is not a pick if both the player being guarded and the obstructing player are making a play on the disc.”
While in USAU, it is described as:

”A pick occurs whenever an offensive player moves in a manner that causes a defensive player guarding (3.E) an offensive player to be obstructed by another player. Obstruction may result from contact with, or the need to avoid, the obstructing player.”
In the WFDF version it is not stated that the obstruction is caused by the Offensive player movements, so does that mean that if an offensive player is standing still, his defender (within 3 meters) can call pick if he feels obstructed, or same as USAU, that only if the Offensive player’s movement causes the obstruction then it’s a pick

It’s a bit confusing as also in the document showing the difference in rules, this is not addressed (only the late pick call thing is mentioned), so I don’t know if it’s same between WFDF and USAU or is it different

    Thank you

It is a slight difference from USAU. In practice, I don’t think it’s actually a meaningful difference though.

    Thanks Rueben for getting back,

However I didn’t fully get it

So what you mean is that indeed a pick can occur with the offensive player stationary and not moving in any way?

Yes, a pick can occur with the offensive player stationary and not moving in any way.
