Hello,

I have seen several players wearing cleats with studs partally made of metal, see, for example, http://www.sportsdirect.com/sondico-flair-sg-mensfootball-boots–198001?colcode=19800103 and http://www.sportsdirect.com/adidas-world-cup-sg-mens-football-boots-193101?colcode=19310140

According to the rules:
3.4. No player may wear items of clothing or equipment that reasonably could harm the wearer or other players.

Their official interpretations read:
Note: This includes wristwatches, bracelets, buckles and protruding jewelry. Metal studs, long studs and studs with sharp edges are not allowed on footwear.

I always took it to mean that studs with ANY amount of metal are NOT allowed, but opinions on this differ. Where is the boundary where studs can be regarded as dangerous?

Thank you!

I can’t open your links, but I am assuming you are referring to metal tipped studs. By the rule interpretation you should not wear them. So if you are shopping for cleats, buy other models.

On the other hand, these are not more dangerous than hard plastic studs, so requesting from your opponent to change her shoes may be going a bit too far.
