hi!
What happened:
– pull thrown
– the disc bounces on the ground inside the field and flies again
– a receiving player (player A, offence) catches the disc and puts it on the ground in order to give the opportunity to the chosen receiver (player B, offence) to play it.The defending team asks for a turnover.
The team in offence says it’s legal and no turnover. To me it’s not a turnover following:
7.8. If an offensive player, in-bounds or out-of-bounds, touches the disc before it hits the ground, and the offensive team fails to catch it, that is a turnover (a “dropped pull”).I guess the player A has to pick up the disc from the ground and play it, anyway I couldn’t find any info regarding this rules so it’s even possible that the player picking up the disc could be player B.
thanks in advance

It is similar to 13.6, but it does not happen after a turnover so this rule cannot be applied.
13.6. If the player in possession after a turnover intentionally drops the disc, or places the disc on the ground, they must re-establish possession and restart play with a check.
According to the rules I believe it would be a turnover, although i’m not sure to which point 1.2 could be applied here.
1.2. It is trusted that no player will intentionally break the rules; thus there are no harsh penalties for inadvertent breaches, but rather a method for resuming play in a manner which simulates what would most likely have occurred had there been no breach.

Pull hits the ground, bounces off of it, an offensive player tries to stop it and accidentally catches it (disc between his two hands, spin stopped) then he lets it fall to the ground for another offensive player to pick up.
We resolved it as a non-turnover because of 13.6 in the rules, but I would like a definite answer was that call correct, as the rules do not give a clear answer

Interpretation | 13.1.1.

It is not a turnover if a player fumbles the disc prior to fully establishing possession when attempting to gain possession of the disc after a turnover, or after a pull that has already contacted the ground.Still no answer which player should start with the disc

This applys when the player does not catch the disc. So this rule is for when the pull hits the ground, pops back up and an offensive player makes contact with the (again) airborne disc trying to catch it but does not catch it.
In this scenario nothing happens. Still any player is allowed to pick up the disc.In the original question’s scenario the player establishes possesion of the disc making him the thrower. If any thrower places the disc on the ground while it’s live it’s a turnover by the rules (unless the quoted rule 13.6.) applies.
So strictly by the rules the original scenario should be a turnover.
