At major tournaments or where possible, allow for “ball kids” to retrieve out-of-bounds discs (further than the 3/5m buffer from the playing field) and give a fresh disc to the offense at the closest point on the playing field (e.g. sideline where the disc went out, back of end zone if it went out the back). The new disc would be immediately available when the old one hits the ground or an object outside the playing field (i.e. once it is out of bounds).
This could speed up the game (less time walking the disc back into play) and allow teams to fast-break off an out-of-bounds throw. It’s common at higher levels of football, rugby, tennis, field hockey, etc. You could have six game discs available for a final, for example.
