Currently rule 7.5.1 refers to the “thrower” as the person who should establish a pivot point after a defense call. According to current WFDF wording, the thrower is either the person who threw the disc prior to the call or the one in possession of the disc. Because offside needs to be called before the offense establishes possession, it can be interpreted as the “thrower” being the defense player who made the pull. This might lead people to incorrectly assume that a defensive offside call results in a turnover and that the defense or team responsible for the pull gain possession of the disc.
