For a self check the thrower must still check with the defence of they are ready to restart play. Sometimes the defence, incorrectly, is talking amongst themselves to work out their d strategy and are not saying they are ready. So that is when you could call delay of game. If they don’t stop talking strategy and acknowledge that they are ready, you can then just check the disc in.
